RUTH DAVIS
Ruth Bassett Davis, 77, died Jan. 31, 2012.
Funeral services were Feb. 10 at St. Francis Catholic Church with Father Lincoln Dall officiating. Burial followed at Glenwood Cemetery under the direction of Century Funeral Home.
Mrs. Davis was born Oct.  30, 1934 in Yazoo County to Diggs Bassett Sr. and Emma Fisher Smith. She graduated from St. Francis Catholic School in 1953. She worked as a secretary at the Afro-American Hospital for years before joining Yazoo Community Action and later working for the Head Start Program in Yazoo City. She operated Aunt Ruth’s Daycare for 16 years. She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Willie Davis.
Survivors include, her daughters, Linda McGrueder and Christie Davis; stepdaughter, Glenda Rogers (Walter); stepson, Billy Davis; brother, Diggs Bassett Jr. of Chicago; sisters, Willie B. Anderson of Pontiac, Mich. and Barbara Bassett of Chicago; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Serving as pallbearers were Courtney Collins, James Harber, Moses Fox Jr., Dante Smith, Corey Haymer and Diavante Nelson.
Honorary pallbearers were Robert Felton Sr., Willie Jones, Bill Brown, Calvin A. Jones, Dr. William Nelson, Robert Fisher, Leonard Taylor Sr. and Howard Fox Sr.

JOHN RICHARDSON
John Richardson, 65, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2011 at home.
Graveside services are today at Lakewood Cemetery in Clinton at 11 a.m.
Burial will follow under the direction of Stricklin-King Funeral Home.
Mr. Richardson was born March 19, 1945 in Jackson to Vance and Evy Richardson. He was an avid chef and a Master Mason.
He was preceeded in death by a daughter, Laura Rogers, and his parents.
Survivors include his daughters, Lynn Jenkins of Knoxville, Tenn., Lisa Jones of Terry, Lachelle Griffin of Byram and Lane Lambert of Pearl; stepchildren Lisa, Janice, Lyndsey, and Leigh;18 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters Debra Golden of Ocean Springs and  Patricia Hastings of Clinton; and a brother, Larry Richardson of Pensacola, Fla.

HENRY HELMS
Henry Arnold Helms, Sr, 97, of Crystal Springs, died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012 at home surrounded by his loving family.  
Funeral services were Tuesday at Stricklin-King Funeral Home with Rev. Guy McGarity officiating.
Survivors include his wife of 73 years, Elizabeth Helms; five daughters Myrna Tilghman, Jean (Jerry) Berch, Judy Griffin all of Crystal Springs, Jan (John) Szalay of Tampa, Fla. and Carole (Gary) Grantham of Brandon and daughter-in-law Shirley Helms of Louise; sisters Jeanette Curley Bozier City, La. Dot Duett and Sara Tharpe of Indianola, two brothers R C Barnette of Mathison and Milford Barnette of Bozier City, LA.  17 grand-children, 37 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren.
He was preceeded in death by 1 son, 1 daughter and 5 grandchildren.
Mr. Helms was known to many as “the walking man” as he made his daily 5 mile trek around town, waving and smiling to all who saw him. He lived his life as a devoted Christian man and a loving and devoted husband, father and Papaw. He touched the lives of many in a way that only he could do, making everyone around him feel special and noticed. He will truly be missed and remembered.  He finished the race.
Serving as pallbearers were his grandsons:  Danny Bell, David Bell, Randy Bell, Bryan Tilghman, Jay Szalay and Jim Szalay. Honorary pallbearers are Jerry Berch, John Szalay, Gary Grantham, Dewitt Gayle, Thomas Woods and Wayne Allen Sr.
