City cuts payments to county

By JAMIE PATTERSON
Managing Editor

City leaders voted 3-2 Monday to suspend all payments to the county for their interlocal agreements until county officials hear their concerns.
The Board of Mayor and Aldermen were split in their views during their open meeting Monday afternoon about the payment suspension.
With Alderman Aubry Brent Jr. and Mayor McArthur Straughter in opposition, the motion carried with the three remaining votes.
Ward 2 Alderman Dr. Jack Varner sparked the discussion with his frustrations with the lack of communication between the two parties.
