City E-911 estimate higher than expected

By JAMIE PATTERSON
Managing Editor

After learning the cost of  creating its own E-911 dispatch center, the city didn’t pursue the idea in this week’s meeting.
The Board of Mayor and Alderman requested that Jackson Communications return to its open meeting with a financial breakdown of creating its own emergency dispatch center.
Under the impression it would cost about $34,000, board members were left speechless when the estimate proved much higher this week.
Paul Waggoner with Jackson Communications told the board that one option for a complete dispatch center would cost about $362,000.
