A 73-year-old man was killed Saturday morning after the truck he was driving was struck by a train.
Hubert Lee Cole was crossing the tracks at Grand Avenue near Clubview Circle onto Jerry Clower Boulevard at 9:55 a.m. when he was struck by a southbound Amtrak passenger train.
Yazoo County Coroner Ricky Shivers said Cole was killed instantly. None of the 155 passengers aboard the train were injured. The train was heading for New Orleans from Chicago. The passengers were taken to their final destination by bus.
The train pushed Cole’s truck about 1,300 feet before stopping. Rescue workers pronounced Cole dead on the scene. The truck caught fire as they attempted to work.
