Bringing a love of tennis to Yazoo

Yvette Edwards Cook has introduced the joy of tennis to many Yazooans over the years at the Yazoo Country Club.Yvette Edwards Cook has introduced the joy of tennis to many Yazooans over the years at the Yazoo Country Club.By JAMIE PATTERSON

When Yvette Edwards Cook was only eight years old, she thought her one shot at tennis was over.
It was her first lesson, and she was eager to leave her racquet on the court.
“I told my mother that I didn’t want to ever play again,” Cook said. “I put the racquet down and never looked back.”
But her instructor that day saw something in Cook. There was a talent.
“He told my mother, ‘do everything you can to keep her in it,’” Cook said. “He said, ‘she has talent.’”
Cook walked back onto the court a few years later at 11 years old. A year later, she played in her first tennis tournament.
