City may ban employee cell phone use

By JAMIE PATTERSON
Managing Editor

City leaders are researching an ordinance that could eliminate personal cell phone usage among city workers and employees while at work.
City employees using their personal cell phones while on the clock has become an issue in Yazoo City. After complaints and open violations, the Board of Alderman brought the matter to the table during its open meeting Monday afternoon.
Ward 2 Alderman Dr. Jack Varner sparked the discussion by asking that the board to first warn then terminate those who continue to use their cell phones while at work.
“Employees should not be using them on the job,” Ward 3 Alderman Clifton Jones agreed.
