Benton Garden Club learns about tulips from Master Gardener
The Benton Garden Club recently held its monthly meeting. Master Gardener Judy Pennington presented a program on tulips. Pictured above are hostesses Sharon Beidleman and Michie McGraw with guest Pennington. Special to The Herald
The Benton Garden Club met on Jan. 7 at the Fellowship Hall of the Benton Methodist Church.
The meeting was called to order by President Gigi Matthews, and the club collect was read in unison. Maudine Trammell, club secretary, called the roll and read the minutes of the December meeting.
A brief business session was conducted after which a delicious brunch was served. Beautiful apricot tulips in crystal bowls were the centerpieces for the tables and were most appropriate to the subject of the program.
The guest speaker was Judy Pennington from Vicksburg, a Master Gardener who gave a presentation on "Tulips as Annuals". She provided a visual presentation of tulips which was taken while on a visit to Holland, as well as photos taken from her own yard. She provided a printed guide with pertinent information regarding the purchasing, selection, preparation, problems, and pleasures of growing tulips. Her presentation was both interesting and informative.
Retired from the Corp of Engineers in Vicksburg, she is currently employed by the Warren County Horticultural Extension Service.
The hostesses for the brunch were Sharon Beidleman and Michie McGraw.
