It’s rare for a basketball team to be held scoreless in a quarter. It may be even more rare for a team to make just one free throw in a single quarter. The Lady Panthers of Yazoo County (9-13) accomplished that feat Tuesday night in a 40-31 loss to Ridgeland (9-12).
Yazoo County scored just one point in the first and third quarters, but made up for the lack of offense in the second and fourth quarters.
Trailing 11-1 after one quarter of play, the Lady Panthers outscored Ridgeland 13-10 in the second to trail 21-14 at halftime. In the fourth quarter Yazoo County posted 16 points in a comeback attempt, but couldn’t slow down Ridgeland who scored 10 points, accounting for the 40-31 victory.
Senior Ashanti Spencer led the Lady Panthers in scoring with 13 points.
