Varner says city should offset pay cuts

Beginning in July, city employees will notice a change in their paychecks.
Employees’ retirement benefits will increase 1.75 percent, effective July 1.
Benefit contributions will increase from 7.25 percent to 9 percent, causing more money to be taken out of employees’ paychecks. The increase was mandated by state law.
