County sends Rams packing
By TAYLOR MITCHELL
On a night full of last second wins and losses, Yazoo County added just one more buzzer beater Friday night.
Against Indianola Gentry, the Panthers led the entire first half, scoring nine points in the first and 13 in the second while holding the Rams to just eight points in each quarter. The strong showing in the first half for Yazoo County gave them a 22-16 lead at the halfway point.
However, the second half would be another story entirely.
Indianola came out in the second half on fire, scoring 16 points in the third quarter while the Panthers’ offense lost its spark with just six points.
Trailing by four points in the final quarter, Yazoo County responded with 16 points of their own. None bigger, however, than the final point that gave the Panthers a one-point edge in the final moments.
In the 44-42 victory, the Panthers were led by Jadauris Haymer with 18 points and Stephen Rucker had 12.
The next day against Madison Central, however, the Panthers struggled to find their offensive groove in a 53-22 defeat.
Madison Central opened the game with 11 points in the first quarter and 16 more in the second while holding Yazoo County to just five points in each of the first two quarters. The story wouldn’t change much in the second half as the Panthers opened the third quarter with just four points.
