Immanuel too much for Mavs to handle
By TAYLOR MITCHELL
The game couldn’t have started off much better for the Lady Mavericks of Manchester Academy against Immanuel Christian Friday night. The Lady Mavs jumped out to a 13-4 lead after the first quarter, but it wouldn’t last as Immanuel Christian fought back to win 44-42, despite a last-second shot by Kaitlin Woods.
After Immanuel missed a pair of free throws with 27 seconds to go and a Manchester timeout, senior Maggie Hughes moved the ball up court but was immediately met by a pair of defenders. Hughes dumped the ball off to Woods next to Manchester’s bench and put up a three-point shot with a pair of defenders in her face. The shot bounced off the rim and was recovered by Immanuel to secure the 44-42 victory.
Woods, who scored the first points of the game with a three-point shot, finished with eight points. Senior Mary Moses Hitt led the Lady Mavs in scoring with 19 points and Hughes also had eight.
