Gang problems plague school

By JAMIE PATTERSON
Managing Editor

With the recent fights and other altercations at Yazoo City High School, it was determined that there is a heavy presence of gang activity within its halls.
Dr. Arthur Cartlidge, interim superintendent of the city school district, said a study determined there were 10 different groups operating at the local high school.
Cartlidge shared the findings of gang activity with the school board during its open meeting last week.
“At the last large fight at the high school, there were a lot of gang signs being thrown out there,” he said. “There is heavy gang activity currently in the school. There is graffiti on the walls, in the bathroom and on desks. We can’t allow that in our schools.”
