City calls for preservation of inventory tax

By JAMIE PATTERSON
Managing Editor

A resolution urging state lawmakers to oppose the elimination of the state’s inventory tax was submitted by city leaders last week.
The Board of Mayor and Aldermen submitted the resolution in the hopes that state lawmakers will continue support of inventory taxes.
The elimination or reduction of the state inventory tax was recently introduced to legislation. The city’s resolution defines inventory tax as a property tax levied against the value of a company’s inventory that is essential to the tax base and the continuation of vital services.
