A.E. EDGAR Jr.
Archelous E. “Bub” Edgar Jr., 87, died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011 at University Medical Center in Jackson.
Funeral services were Saturday at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Gary Henderson and Rev. Bill Poole officiating. Burial followed at Glenwood Cemetery under the direction of Stricklin-King Funeral Home.
Mr. Edgar was born July 24, 1924 in Yazoo County to Archelous Edgar Sr. and Margaret Myers Edgar. He was a lifelong resident of Yazoo County and had lived at his present home place for over 80 years.  He graduated from Yazoo City High School and attended Mississippi State University until called into service with the Navy during World War II.  He was a farmer all of his life in Yazoo County and avid hunter.  Mr. Edgar was a member of Pleasant Hill Methodist Church and attended Rocky Springs Baptist Church all of his adult life. He enjoyed spending as much time as possible with all of his family.
He was a board member for the Yazoo County Farm Bureau and for the Eden Drainage District where he had served as president. He had been active most of his life with the Mississippi Pork Producers Association.   
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Lizzie Chisolm Edgar; and sisters, Margeurite Edgar Roberts and Gladys Edgar Paul.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Mollie Wilson Edgar of Yazoo City; a son, Archie Edgar III (Angie) of Yazoo City; a daughter, Pam Edgar of Madison;  six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers were Will Edgar, Matt Edgar, Josh Dick, Darin McCullough, Robert Vandevere, Tony Baker and Albert Vandevere.
Honorary pallbearers are Bill Winstead, Phillip Vandevere, Owen Graves, Dr. Marion Sigrest, Dr. Earl Fyke, Johnny Twiner, Lamar Twiner, Ralph Sanders, and Clay Schoolfield.
Memorials may be made to the Young Farmers and Ranchers Scholarship Fund at the following address:  Mississippi Farm Bureau, 6311 Ridgewood Road, Jackson, MS  39211 and specify in memory of Mr. A E. Edgar.  Memorials may also be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.

KATHERINE PIERCE
Katherine J. Pierce, 85, died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011 at Northeast Medical Center.
Funeral services were Tuesday at Bethany Baptist Church. Burial followed at Shiloh Cemetery.
Mrs. Pierce was born Nov. 26, 1923 in Yazoo County to Henry and Tennie Sims Johnston. She was a homemaker and a member of Benton Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren A. Pierce; a granddaughter, Rhonda Bingham; sisters, Lena Hood and Lois Reeves; and brothers, Paul Johnston and Hurbert Henry Johnston.
Survivors include a son, Warren Pierce (Shirley) of Saltillo; three daughters, Kathy Edwards of Pickens, Brenda Sue Hegman of Yazoo City and Belinda Pierce Sanford of Dacula, Ga.; sister, Mary Ann Burns of Benton; two brothers, James Johnston of Yazoo City and Fredrick Johnston of Yazoo City; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers were James Sanford, Clarence Nelson, Gary Butler, Charlie Burns Jr., Jay Sanford, David Edwards, James Hegman, Charlie Burns, James Johnston and Paul David Edwards.
