Following his teams’ 23-17 victory over Wake Forest in the Music City Bowl, Mississippi State junior defensive tackle Fletcher Cox has announced he will forgo his senior season in Starkville and will enter the NFL Draft in April.
“God works in many ways,” Cox said during an interview with The New York Times. “He answered my prayer and I knew deep down in my heart it was time for me to go.”
Cox, a 2011 All-American and All-SEC player, recorded 14.5 tackles for a loss and five sacks for the Bulldogs. Currently, Cox is projected to be a late-first round to early second round pick in April and ESPN’s Todd McShay has Cox rated as the second-best defensive tackle behind Penn State’s Devon Still.
Against Wake Forest, Cox had seven total tackles and a pair of tackles for a loss to go along with his lone sack.
Cox will now go through the evaluation process all 32 NFL squads put soon-to-be-rookies through, starting with the scouting combine in March.
