Many of the starving horses found in a Yazoo County pasture last month are now being nursed back to health after being surrendered to an animal protection organization.
In Defense of Animals, an international animal protection organization, has joined forces with Have a Heart Horse Rescue, based in Coila,  for the care of seven of fifteen horses and a mule discovered starving in Yazoo County.
Have a Heart Rescue received the last three of the seven horses last week.
For Dewayne and Cannon  Williams, they can now get a good night’s sleep.
“I can sleep now knowing that they are safe,” Cannon said.
The Williams couple discovered the starving horses in a small pasture along the highway a few weeks ago. When they approached the fence line, they found horses that were literally skin and bones, many covered in ticks.
The carcasses of other horses were also scattered in the pasture, dead from starvation.
Dewayne immediately went into action, notifying authorities about the gruesome sight he and his wife discovered that day.
