Most of the time people consider basketball a high-scoring game that reaches triple-digits some nights. While that’s the case most of the time, there are times that games are low-scoring, defensive battles.
Monday night at Yazoo City was one of those as the Indians fought for four quarters against Clinton in a 43-38 loss.
“They shot the ball well all night,” Indians head coach Archie Carlyle said. “They are a good, solid team. They had one player make five three-pointers. We didn’t do a good job there.”
Both sides accounted for a total of 33 points in the first half, highlighted by the Arrows’ defensive effort in the second quarter that held Yazoo City to just four points after taking a 12-10 lead after the first quarter.
“We had our opportunities, but we couldn’t capitalize on them,” Carlyle said. “That four-point second quarter came back to haunt us.”
The Indians were without one of their best rebounders in Ladarius Drain, who missed the game with a sprained ankle.
“We missed him on the boards,” Carlyle said.
The defensive battle continued into the second half with Clinton holding onto its slim lead with 12 points. The Indians managed to post just 10 points in the third quarter, giving the Arrows a three-point lead headed into the fourth quarter.
