For a second straight year Yazoo County High School is mourning the loss of a senior to an auto accident.
David Edwards, 18, was killed Monday morning when his truck left the road and hit a tree before bursting into flames in a field on Fletcher’s Chapel Road. Yazoo County Coroner Ricky Shivers said Edwards was pronounced dead at the scene.
Edwards was a gifted student and was considered likely to serve as the valedictorian of his class.
Local ministers and counselors from Warren-Yazoo Mental Health Services were on campus Tuesday to help students cope with grief. Principal Becky Fisher said the situation is one that school administrators unfortunately have experience with.
