Garbage collection returns to twice a week after protest

StraughterStraughterBy JAMIE PATTERSON
Managing Editor

Garbage will be picked up twice a week again in Yazoo City after numerous complaints from citizens.
The Board of Mayor and Aldermen first moved garbage pickup to once a week a few weeks ago. Since then, City Hall has been flooded with phone calls from concerned citizens who felt it was unfair to pay the same fee for fewer pickup days.
The move back to twice a week pickup was approved by the board during its open meeting Monday afternoon.
“I have been getting a ton of phone calls,” said Mayor McArthur Straughter. “My own garbage can fills up rapidly. I think it needs to go back to a two-day pickup.”
