County wins in final seconds

GREENWOOD – High school basketball games last 32 minutes. Tuesday night, the Lady Panthers of Yazoo County needed every last second to escape with a 40-38 victory over Amanda Elzy.
The Lady Panthers started the game off strong, taking a three-point lead after one quarter of play and extending their lead to 23-13 at halftime. It was the second half that would cause problems for Yazoo County.
Amanda Elzy exploded for 13 points in the third quarter, while holding the Lady Panthers to only four points. The big third quarter by Amanda Elzy brought the score to 27-26 with one quarter to go.
In that final quarter, Amanda Elzy continued their offensive effectiveness with 12 points. However, Yazoo County scored 13 points, including the game-winning shot in the final minute of action.
Caprice Coleman led Yazoo County in scoring with 15 points, while Ashanti Spencer finished second with nine.
