Aubry Brent Jr. stood in line as the names of the men beside him were slowly called out.
After each one, the commanding officer announced where they would be headed for their military service.
The Republic of Vietnam... Republic of Vietnam... Republic of Vietnam...was heard each time.
When he heard ‘Brent,’ he anxiously waited.
“Germany,” the officer yelled.
Brent’s heart sank. But not because he was thankful to be heading in the opposite direction of combat during the conflict of Vietnam.
