GREENVILLE - Both the boys and girls basketball teams for Washington School scored 20 points or more in a quarter against the Manchester Academy teams Monday night, en route to a pair of victories.
The Lady Mavs fell 51-39 after giving up 21 points in the first quarter, while the Mavericks lost 66-40 following a 27-point third quarter by Washington.
However, the Manchester girls trailed by just five points at halftime after outscoring Washington 13-7 in the second quarter. The Lady Mavs had scored 11 points in the first quarter.
With a 28-23 score at halftime, both sides came out playing competitively in the second half. Manchester continued to post double digit points with 10 in the third quarter. However, the Lady Generals were able to stay one step ahead of the opposition with 12 points of their own.
Washington School would secure its victory in the fourth quarter when they held Manchester to just five points, en route to a 51-39 win.
Senior Kristen Morris continued her stellar play with 17 points, while Maggie Hughes finished second with just eight points.
In the boys game later that evening, the Mavs kept pace with Washington for one quarter, trailing just 13-11. However, that would change drastically in the second and third quarters as the Generals began to pull away from Manchester.
