Local choir members meet in preparation for Christmas Cantata

pecial to The Herald

Rehearsals are currently underway for a Christmas Cantata  scheduled for Dec. 9 at 6:30 p.m. at the Triangle Cultural Center.
The program, sponsored by the Oakes African-American Cultural Center, will feature performers from area churches under the direction of Edwina Gordon Fox.
Participants have been rehearsing at St. Stephen United Methodist Church on Thursday evenings in preparation for the event.
This is the fourth year that a musical celebration of the Christmas season, sponsored by the Oakes Advisory Board of Directors, has been held at the Triangle.
Last year’s audience was treated to a beautiful medley of Christmas carols provided by choir members from local churches.
This year’s Christmas Cantata,  Behold Emmanuel: Love is with Us, is shaping up to be an extra special musical celebration.
Thanks to the efforts of Rev. Rachel Pitts and Joe Henry Smith, Oakes Cultural Center Advisory Board member, this year’s event promises to bring in a larger audience than that of previous three years.
Musicians Rev. Steve Dennis and Joe Henry Smith, who accompanied the group during the past two years, have been working diligently to make this fundraising event a success.
Tickets for the Cantata  are $5, and may be purchased at the door or from members of the Yazoo County Fair and Civic League Inc.
Light refreshments will be served following the program.
For more information concerning this event, call Rev. Rachel Pitts, Joe Henry Smith or the Yazoo County Fair and Civic League office at 746-7984.
