Community-wide Thanksgiving service to be held Nov. 20 at Word of Faith

Special to The Herald

The Word of Faith Christian Center, located at 407 Jackson Ave., will host the annual community-wide Thanksgiving service, sponsored by the Yazoo City Ministerial Association. The 2011 service is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 20, and will begin at 6 p.m.
The Thanksgiving sermon will be preached by Rev. David Humphreys, pastor of River Mountain Church. Special music will be under the direction of the music ministry and musicians of the host church. Rev. Edward Taylor, pastor of Word of Faith, will give the welcome. Other ministers from throughout the city will assist with scriptures, prayers and announcements. A testimony of thanksgiving will be given by Van Ray.
An offering will be received that evening to assist with local benevolence needs throughout the community. Rev. Rachel Pitts, pastor of St. Stephen United Methodist Church, and treasurer of the Yazoo City Ministerial Association, assists with administering the benevolence funds.
The public is cordially invited to attend this city-wide service. Many of the churches are altering their Sunday evening schedules or canceling their own services in order to encourage their members to participate in this community event.

Letters to the editor

Dear Editor:
In the 6 April 2013 edition of The Yazoo Herald you published a letter from Cynthia Fuller, "Thanks to (Van) Foster for helping get bridge replaced."
After reading this lettter, I had the impression that the bridge was completed and traffic was moving along normally.
Wrong!  Last Sunday I was on my way to homecoming at Providence Baptist Church.  I turned north onto old 49 and saw the signs that the bridge was out.  I assumed that they hadn't gotten around to removing the signs.  I expected to cross Thompson Creek on the new bridge.  When I approached the creek the road was barricaded and construction equipment was down in the creek.
Perhaps The Herald can keep us updated as to the progress being made on the new bridge.
