CLIFFORD MARTIN

Clifford Ray Martin, 69, died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011 after a short bout with cancer.
Funeral services are today at 2 p.m. at the Stricklin-King Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Hutto officiating. Burial will follow at Central Holmes Cemetery.
Mr. Martin was born April 2, 1942 in Yazoo County to Henry Richard Martin and Lillian Sanford Martin. He graduated from Benton High School in 1961 and received a scholarship to play football at Holmes Community College.
He worked for the Illinois Central/Canadian National Railroad for 42 years as an engineer. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and a Baptist. He enjoyed Ole Miss football, fishing, hunting, tending to his cattle and spending time with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Tony Martin; and a sister, Evelyn “Honey” Ertle.
Survivors include his son, Tim Martin (Sandy) of Ponchatoula, La.; a sister, Helen Hendrix of Yazoo City; a brother, Travis Martin of Lake; and five grandchildren, Tony Martin and Haley Martin of Yazoo City and Taylor Martin, Sundy Martin and Christian Martin of Ponchatoula, La.
Serving as pallbearers are Dean Hopson, Clarence Hall, Bobby Jones, Herman Milner and Ralph Trippe.
Honorary pallbearers will be his three grandsons.

EMMA PETTIGREW

Emma Pettigrew, 87, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 2011 at Oasis Health & Rehabilitation.
Funeral services were Monday at Glenwood Cemetery with Rev. David Humphries officiating. Burial followed under the direction of Stricklin-King Funeral Home.
Mrs. Pettigrew was born Sept. 14, 1924 in Alabama to Parker and Nola Bowman. She was a homemaker and a member of the Yazoo City Assembly of God.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sebrin Pettigrew.
Survivors include two daughters, Evelyn Carpenter of Yazoo City and Sue Saxton of Florence; and two sons, James Pettigrew of Braxton and Ricky Pettigrew of Canton.
Serving as pallbearers are Rusty Pettigrew and Taylor Pettigrew.
