Another day full of football

Taylor Mitchell
Sports Editor

As someone who spent a majority of his life in Big 12 country, I have to admit that I was a little naïve four years ago when it came to SEC football.
Foolish me, I thought Texas and Oklahoma were better than teams like LSU, Alabama and Florida. Now, though, I’ve seen the light. Just so we’re clear though, I’ll still root for Texas or Oklahoma over any SEC school and will always say Alabama doesn’t win the 2009 national title if Colt McCoy doesn’t get hurt.
After moving to Mississippi in 2007, I quickly realized the SEC has more depth, in terms of quality teams. This weekend only confirms that belief.
If you’ve paid the least bit attention to college football the past month, you should know today features the biggest game of the year, maybe even century. No.1 LSU at No.2 Alabama has captured the attention of football fans since it became clear in early October those two squads were the best in the nation.
But there’s more to the SEC slate than that game in Tuscaloosa.  There’s No. 9 South Carolina at No. 7 Arkansas, Vanderbilt at Florida and Ole Miss at Kentucky (two bad teams can make a good game). Mississippi State and Georgia play out of conference games against Tennessee-Martin and New Mexico State, respectively.
Half of those are games I’d tune in to.
Now, compare that slate of games to, oh I don’t know, the Pac-12 that features three ranked teams traveling to unranked conference opponents, none of which are considered to be huge threats. Maybe Washington facing No.8 Oregon is a potential upset game, but I don’t believe that will happen.
