All three initiatives appearing on Tuesday’s ballot have generated their share of debate, but Proposition 26, also known as the Personhood Amendment, has been by far the greatest source of conflict and confusion.
Proposition 26 will not actually establish law if approved, but will add the definition to the state constitution of a person as including every human being “from the moment of fertilization, cloning or functional equivalent thereof.”
Proponents of the amendment believe this will set the stage for ending abortions in Mississippi and ultimately challenging the Roe v. Wade case that established abortions as legal in the U.S. -------for the rest of the story see The Yazoo Herald printed edition or subscribe to the Digital Edition.----------
