Public hearings set for neglected properties

By JAMIE PATTERSON
Managing Editor

Public hearings to begin the process of demolishment for twelve houses within the city were set last week.
City leaders approved the hearings at the last Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting. Hearings for three houses will be held during the last week of November. The hearings for the remaining nine houses will be held in January.
A few board members expressed concerns over the time it takes for an unkempt house to be demolished in Yazoo City. Danny Neely, code enforcement officer, told the board it takes about two months for the entire process to be completed.
The action last week allows a public hearing to be held to determine whether a house is considered a health, safety or welfare hazard before it can be demolished.
