Turnovers have plagued the Panthers of Yazoo County all season long. Friday night against Cleveland High School, turnovers killed any shot the Panthers had at defeating the Wildcats as Cleveland cruised to a 35-0 victory.
“Anytime you turn the ball over against a team like Cleveland you don’t give yourself much of a chance,” Yazoo County head coach Bernard Euell said. “They’re a good football team, very disciplined and well coached. When you play a team with that kind of pedigree you cannot turn the ball over.”
The Panthers (3-7, 2-2) held Cleveland (7-3, 4-0) to just seven points in the first half, thanks to a Justin Mills interception in the end zone as the first half came to a close, and opened the second half with the ball. However, on the third play of the half, Mills fumbled the ball and the Wildcats recovered the ball at the Panthers’ 26-yard line.
