For the past two weeks, Yazoo City’s games have come down to the final minutes. This week, however, the Indians wouldn’t have any late-game drama as they easily handled Lanier 43-21.
“It was good not to have to win the game late like we have been,” Indians head coach Tony Woolfolk said. “But we’ll do whatever we need to do to win the game.”
Senior Tre Richardson led the way for Yazoo City with three rushing touchdowns, but it was senior Rendell Rucker who drew first blood last Friday night with a 33-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.
Senior quarterback Dazmon Wright also had a big day, passing for a pair of touchdowns, both of which went to Chris Smith. Their first connection for a touchdown came In the second quarter on a 10-yard play. Later in the second quarter, Richardson extended Yazoo City’s lead with a 20-yard touchdown run that made the score 21-0 at halftime.
“Tre (Richardson) has been running the ball for us for three years,” Woolfolk said. “He’s a scat back with a lot of speed. It was good to see him have the kind of game that he had.”
