District 1 candidate dies at 61

Bill PlunkettBill PlunkettThe Yazoo Herald

District 1 Supervisor candidate William K. “Bill” Plunkett died Wednesday morning of heart failure.
Plunkett, 61, was an Independent candidate in the Nov. 8 election for District 1 Supervisor.
Friends remembered Plunkett fondly.
“I’ve got a lot of  good memories of Bill from our childhood,” said Kirk Harpole. “He was a few years older than me, and I always remember what a great running back he was at Bentonia High School.”
Longtime friend Michael Bates said one thing that always stood out about Plunkett was his strong work ethic.
"Bill was a very hard working person,” Bates said. “As long I have known him, he held at least two different jobs."
Bates said Plunkett’s greatest joy was his daughters, Erica and Liza Plunkett.
"Anything those two daughters needed, their daddy always made it available,” Bates said.
“Bill was our neighbor, and he was very good to my family,” said Jason Patterson,  Herald editor and publisher. “He was very helpful in my father’s last years. I have always been grateful for that.”
