MADDEN - Manchester Academy took a step back in the race for a district championship this past Friday night when the Mavericks fell to Leake Academy 26-9.
The loss dropped Manchester’s record to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in district play, while Leake improved to 4-4 overall and 3-0 in district. To make matters worse, it was the second straight loss by Manchester after last week’s 37-26 loss to Indianola Academy.
“That was a big game. We win and we stay in first place for the district,” head coach Benny McLendon said. “Now, we’re in a tie for second place.”
While the final score shows a dominating performance by Leake, the Mavericks defense held the opposition for the first three quarters of action.
