Mrs. Leola Dillard and other volunteers are armed with the spirit of love, enthusiasm and dedication have set out to inspire and touch the lives of people in Yazoo City on the national Make A Difference Day on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011.
This year, Dillard and other community volunteers will sponsor a free flea market on the front lawn and driveway at 729 Grand Avenue from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. The Dillard Free Flea Market will feature clothes, baby items, towels, bed linens, shoes, household goods, pictures, frames, school supplies, books, toiletries, non-perishable food items, furniture, toys, “what-nots,” refreshments and much more. This is a community sponsored project, and no one will be turned away.
Mrs. Dillard states that she is rapidly approaching 100 years old and has deemed this year’s project to be her last year in its original flea market form. However, Mrs. Dillard said she will continue in the years to come to sponsor a variety of projects to enhance the lives of children, families and the community. A brief honor program for Mrs. Dillard will be held at noon during this year’s free flea market. She has participated in the National Make a Difference day for the past 14 years and has brought national recognition to Yazoo City spotlighting the Dillard Free Flea Market.
Mrs. Dillard is encouraging local businesses, individuals, families, schools, churches and religious groups to creat a project and make a difference in someone’s life on Oct. 22.
Make A Difference day is the most encompassing national day of helping others, a celebration of neighbors helping neighbors. Everyone can participate.
