For the final two weeks of the season, the Manchester Academy soccer team had scored the first goal of its games. However, against Adams County Christian School in the first round of the 2011 MAIS playoffs Tuesday, it was the Lady Rebels who got on the board first. It wouldn’t matter much as the Lady Mavs, led by Annie Peaster’s first half hat trick, defeated Adams County 5-1 to advance to the semi final round against Laurel Christian.
“We were kind of sloppy defensively early on,” head coach Michael Morris said. “We didn’t come out ready to play. That woke them up and got them a little mad.”
After giving up the early goal, the Lady Mavs wasted no time in tying the score with Peaster scoring her first goal of the day on a eight-yard shot from the middle of the box.
“We knew they were going to attack the ball, so our crosses were going to be there,” Morris explained. “Kaitlyn (Woods) and Kristen (Morris) did a real nice job of crossing the ball and Annie was sitting in front of the goal and made her shots.”
