A beer bottle remained on the mantel, left behind by one of the many late night revelers who entered the vacant house through open windows and didn’t mind using the floor for a restroom.
But the party’s over at 513 South Washington Street.
The city’s new excavator easily dismantled the house and loaded into dump trucks to be carried away from a neighborhood that was likely in the mood for a celebration of its own.
For over a year neighbors have expressed concerns about the property, citing it as a health hazard and a magnet for drug users and vagrants. One woman described watching people climb through windows at all hours of the night.
Code Enforcement Officer Danny Neely said the legal process to demolish the dilapidated house has been slow and tedious, but Neely said he expects more nuisance properties to be addressed soon around the city.
