With a second victory over River Oaks in as many days, the Manchester Academy soccer team secured a spot in the MAIS playoffs beginning next week.
“We are very excited for the playoffs” Manchester head coach Michael Morris said. “After losing to Indianola, we thought we might be the number three seed and have to travel for the playoffs. Now we control our own destiny and have a good chance at the top seed and home playoff games throughout.
On Wednesday, the Lady Mavs (11-2) defeated River Oaks, 6-2, with senior Kristen Morris leading the charge with five goals. For the season, Morris has found the back of the net 36 times making her the leading scorer in the North AA. Annie Peaster also had a goal scored against River Oaks on Wednesday that brought her total to 10 goals for the year, good enough for second among the Lady Mavs. Maggie Hughes is third with nine goals.
Morris started the game off for Manchester with her first goal within 20 seconds of the opening kick off. It was the fourth consecutive game the Lady Mavs have scored within the first 20 seconds of the game.-------for the rest of the story see The Yazoo Herald printed edition or subscribe to the Digital Edition.----------
