As a newlywed still in her 20s, Lori Scroggins suddenly found herself in a fight for her life when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. By JAMIE PATTERSON

Lori Scroggins was unsure of what the future would hold as she looked out over the sea of pink sweaters and bald heads.
It was the annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk, and she had almost backed out of making the walk.
She felt out of place at first. Not owning a single piece of pink clothing, she stuck out like a sore thumb in her green sweat suit.
But after the first few steps, she could feel the tears building up. She gazed around at other women whose hair was gone from chemotherapy.
She soon realized they were just like her. Scared of course, but also brave and strong.
With her family and friends cheering her on, Lori lifted her head a little higher and found her stride.
It was a moving moment for Lori, who had just found out the day before that she had breast cancer.
“There was something about walking among those women,” she said. “I got pumped up and almost got in fighting mode. Something came out in me. I thought about the cancer saying, ‘how dare you come into my body.’”
Lori’s story began in 2008. She had just married the love of her life, Griffin. They immediately purchased their first home, which they were eager to remodel. Both had great jobs.
