CLEVELAND - After a promising start that saw the Benton Academy softball team defeat Lee (Ark.) Academy 7-0, the Lady Raiders lost two straight games in the north half state tournament this past Saturday to abruptly end their post season.
Following their morning victory over Lee, the Lady Raiders fell to five-time state champion Bayou 3-1 and later to Winona Christian School 7-6.
The Lady Raiders started the tournament off on the right foot with a 7-0 win over Lee that saw senior Jenny Reynolds strikeout 10 opposing batters and give up just two hits.  Benton scored a run in each of the first four innings at Delta State‘s University Field, including three runs in the top of the fourth that gave Benton a 6-0 lead.-------for the rest of the story see The Yazoo Herald printed edition or subscribe to the Digital Edition.----------
