MAXINE CORSON
Maxine Jones Hendricks Corson, 85, died Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011 at King’s Daughters Hospital.
Funeral services were Thursday at the Stricklin-King Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Bryant officiating. Burial followed at Short Creek Cemetery.
Mrs. Corson was born Oct. 27, 1925 in Yazoo County to David and Maggie Mae Kinard. She was a retired data processor for Mississippi Chemical Corporation and a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughters, Sherry Hoffer (Floyd) of Nancy, Ky. and Pam Infanger (Neil) of Sarasota Springs, Utah; sons, Arthur D. Hendricks Jr. of Monroe, La., Larry Hendricks (Shirley) of Georgia and Michael D. Hendricks of Atlanta, Ga.; a sister, Ethel Alexander of Bentonia; a brother, Sam “Bud” Jones of Yazoo City; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Short Creek Cemetery Fund.

OTIS THURMAN Sr.
Otis James Thurman Sr., 80, died Sept. 9, 2011.
Funeral services were Friday at Cook and Son Funeral Home in Columbus, Ohio with Elder Mark Hurt officiating. Burial followed at Greenlawn Cemetery in Greenlawn, Ohio.
Mr. Thurman was born Dec. 11, 1931 in Yazoo City to Henry and Vaneda Thurman. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and later graduated from Franklin University. He founded Thurman Trucking Services, where he was involved in the widening of I-270, work on the Twin Rivers Drive Interchange and many other projects. He also built several houses.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Otis James Thurman Jr.; first wife, Edith Williams; and brothers, Henry Thurman Jr., Eugene and Charles.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine Thurman; sister, Elree Ruby T. Singleton; brothers, John Thurman and James Thurman; son, Owen; and a host of other relatives and friends.

MARY TRAVIS
Mary Denise Travis, 49, died Sept. 14, 2011 at University Medical Center in Jackson.
Funeral services were Wednesday at New Pilgrim Rest M.B. Church with Rev. Anthony Brown officiating. Burial followed at Glenwood Cemetery under the direction of Shaffer & Collins Funeral Home.
Ms. Travis was born July 24, 1962 in Yazoo City to Jessie and Beatrice Travis. She graduated from Yazoo City High School in 1980 and attended Jackson State University and Hinds Community College. She was a member of New King Solomon M.B. Church.
Survivors include her mother, Beatrice Travis of Yazoo City; four children, Deshay Travis, Anis Travis (Kelvin), Cleotha Travis and Shevar Travis, all of Yazoo City; sisters, Dollye Walker of New York and Dorothy Travis (Isaac) of Yazoo City; brothers, C.M. Jones and George Walker of Yazoo City; two grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Serving as pallbearers were Cleotha Brown, Kevin Adams, L.C. Stewart, Anthony Miller, Kelvin Johnson and Frederick Banks.
Honorary pallbearers wer Cleotha Travis, Fred Stuckey, Shevar Travis, Peter Gower, Isaac Ramsey and Jabari Travis.

LOUISE SHIRLEY
Louise Shirley, 82, died September 20, 2011 in Yazoo City.  
Funeral services were Friday at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Chapel in Jackson. Burial followed at  Lakewood South Cemetery.  
Mrs. Shirley had lived in Jackson for a number of years where she was a member of Central Baptist Church and later moved to Yazoo City and became a member of Center Ridge Baptist Church.
She is survived by her son, Butch Shirley (Deborah) of Madison; daughter, Diane Martin (Steven) of Yazoo City; grandchildren, Jeremy Martin, Eric Shirley, Thomas Brent Martin and Austin Shirley; and three great grandchildren.
