OLLIE MCGEE JR.

Ollie Lucious “Jack” McGee Jr. died  August 26, 2011.
Funeral services were held last Saturday at Mt. Vernon/St. Peter M.B. Church with Rev. Steve Dennis officiating. Burial followed at Cypress Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Century Funeral Home.
Mr. McGee was born on June 30, 1940 in Yazoo County to Rev. Ollie McGee Sr. and Mary Woods. He graduated from Yazoo City Training School, where he excelled in track and field sports.
He married Arletha Newton on Sept. 26, 1965. They had four children.
Moving to Detroit, he worked for General Motor Company. Upon returning to Yazoo City, he joined St. Peter M.B. Church, where he served as a transportation driver, deacon, president of the choir and a Sunday School student.
He was preceded in death by his parents; children; Yvette McGee and Jacquline McGee-Carter; and siblings, Valeree Ann, Samuel Joel, Winfield and Helen Jean McGee-Jackson.
Survivors include his wife, Arletha of Clinton; two children, Ollie McGee III and Anna Marie (Santana) Taylor, of Yazoo City; four grandchildren; two brothers, Edward Earl (Bettie Jo) of Yazoo City and Carlton Lance of Detroit; seven sisters, Marian (Roosevelt) Blackmon of Yazoo City, Charlene Dear of Chicago, Emma (Otis) Horton of Webb, Evelyn (Aaron) Johnson of Kansas City, Mo., Thelma McGee of Yazoo City, Rebeca Taylor of Flint, Mich. and Varonia McGee of Yazoo City; and a host of family and friends.
Honorary pallbearers were Carlton McGee, Edward McGee, Earl Green, Arthur Bullock, Carlos McGee, Will Newton, Oscar Newton and Melvin Reynolds.
Pallbearers were members of the 21 Club and Class of 1962.

NEL GEORGE

Nelson “Nel” Lovelace Stevens George, died August 29, 2011.
A memorial service was held Sept. 1 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Poole officiating.
Mrs. George was born May 12, 1931 in Macon to Boswell and Sallie Lovelace Stevens. After graduating from Macon High School, she went on to earn a degree from Mississippi State College for Women and a master’s degree from Mississippi State University. She was a former member of Delta Kappa Gamma, the King’s Daughter’s Hospital Board, the Mary Brickell Circle and a life member of Junior Auxiliary. She taught elementary school for many years in the Yazoo City Public Schools and also operated an antique store and gift shop. She was a member of First United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marlin E. George; parents, Boswell and Sallie Stevens; brother, A.B. Stevens Jr.; and sister, Katharine S. Hollister.
Survivors include her sons, John Stevens George of Los Alamos, N.M., Thomas Nelson George (Dana) of Southaven, Michael L. George (Mabel) of Yazoo City and Marlin George Jr. (Alice) of Yazoo City; a sister, Sara S. Hazard of West Point; three grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
