Leroy Hammond, 62, died Monday, Aug. 22, 2011 at King’s Daughters Hospital.
Funeral services are today at Wolf Lake Baptist Church with Rev. R.E. Toombs officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Knight & Lindsey Funeral Home.
Mr. Hammond was born April 24, 1949 in Yazoo County. He was a retired executive chief with the U.S. Army and National Guard Reserve. He earned the National Defense Service Medal and other honors while serving in Vietnam.
Survivors include his daughter, Amy; grandson, T. Maurice; great-grandson, Braylan Christopher; sisters, Ollie and Deloisa and brother, Robert Earl, all of Yazoo City; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Serving as pallbearers are Lawrence Johnson, James Lonberger, James Neely, James Marlo Turnage, Keith Williams and Patrick Williams.
Honorary pallbearers are Robert Allen, Joann Bennett, Claudine Collins, Elex Price, Will Price and Joe Wilson.
Jesse Floyd Saxton, 63, died Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2011 at home.
Funeral services were Friday at the Stricklin-King Funeral Home Chapel with Vince Davis officiating. Burial followed at Glenwood Cemetery.
Mr. Saxton was born Feb. 12, 1948 in Yazoo County to Clyde Owen Saxten and Katherine Guthrie Saxton. He was a U.S. Army veteran, a machine operator and a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy S. Saxton of Benton; son, Jesse Owen Saxton (Kim) of Benton; daughter, Tammy Sanders (David) of Goodman; brothers, Clyde Saxton of Yazoo City and Otis Saxton of California; three grandchildren, Josh Saxton, Stephanie Sanders and Melanie Sanders; and one great-grandchild, Chelsea Thrasher.
Serving as pallbearers were Alan Taylor, Jude Frey, Josh Saxton, Leroy Thornton, Vince Davis and Jessie Saxton.
