On opening night of the high school football season, and the heat of the sun lingering throughout the night, the Raiders of Benton Academy flashed the potential for greatness against Carroll Academy (AA). However, those flashes were overshadowed by penalties, injuries and turnovers as the Rebels left Benton with a 29-22 victory following a last-minute touchdown run by Hayden Harrell.
Harrell’s 12-yard game-winning run along the right side of the field capped off a 13-play drive that lasted nearly seven minutes. Benton took over on offense with 50 seconds left on the clock and on the second play of the drive quarterback Dalton Burton threw his first interception to end the game. -------for the rest of the story see The Yazoo Herald printed edition or subscribe to the Digital Edition.----------
