GLADYS HOOD

Gladys J. Hood, 96, died Friday, Aug. 19, 2011 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland.
Funeral services were Monday at the Stricklin-King Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Smith officiating. Burial followed at Bethlehem Cemetery.
Mrs. Hood was born July 14, 1915 in Yazoo County to Obe and Annie Litchfield Jones. She was a homemaker and a member of Melrose Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, James H. “Partner” Hood; a son, Randal Aubrey Hood; and sisters, Myrtle Wilson, Edna Slaton and Coriene Tucker.
Survivors include a brother, Herbert O. Jones (Faye) of Benton; nieces, Betty J. Robinson of Bentonia and Tamra Jones of Ridgeland; and a host of other nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers were Fred Tucker, Jeremy Robinson, Joe Tracy, Donnie Hill, Charlie Brown and William Robinson.

CHARLIE WADE

Charlie C. Wade, 75, died Monday, Aug. 22, 2011, at home after a battle with cancer.   
Funeral services are today at 11 a.m. at First United Pentecostal Church. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service at the church.
Mr. Wade was born Oct. 12, 1935 in Vivian, La. to Mellard and Nora Wade.   He was a U. S. Army veteran who served in Germany. He retired from Pennzoil Company after 24 years and Wade’s BP Service Station after 10 years.  He was preceded in death by his father, Mellard Wade; mother, Nora Wade; and sister Ruby Walford.
Survivors include his wife, Glenda S. Wade of Yazoo City; two sons, Jeff C. Wade (Angelia) of Pearl,   Andy G. Wade (Lacie) of Yazoo City; a daughter, Debbie W. Britt (Larry) of Raymond; four sisters, Ruth Bigger and Gladis  Lynch of Shreveport, La., Rosa Sparks of Dubach, La. and Katie Milner of Yazoo City;  a brother, Tommy Wade (Ruby) of Yazoo City; five grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Mr. Wade lived a life of dedication and faithful   commitment to his family and his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Memorials may be made to 1st United Pentecostal Church, P.O. Box 95, Yazoo City. Ms 39194.

WYLMA GOLDEN

Wylma G. Golden, 98, died Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011 at King’s Daughters Hospital.
Funeral services were Friday at Fletcher’s Chapel Cemetery with Rev. Jay Trammell officiating. Burial followed under the direction of Stricklin-King Funeral Home.
Mrs. Golden was born Oct. 28, 1912 in Yazoo County to Eugene and Gertrude Johnson Gary. She was a retired registered nurse who served as Dr. R.J. Moorehead’s nurse for 28 years and a member of First Independent Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Leroy Thornton and Aubrey Golden; a sister, Mary Alice Gary; and a grandchild, Paula Thornton Spencer.
Survivors include her daughter, Carla Manor of Yazoo City; a son, Paul Thornton of Yazoo City; brother, Davis Gary of Yazoo City; seven grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren.

 
Letters to the editor

Dear Editor:
In the 6 April 2013 edition of The Yazoo Herald you published a letter from Cynthia Fuller, "Thanks to (Van) Foster for helping get bridge replaced."
After reading this lettter, I had the impression that the bridge was completed and traffic was moving along normally.  
Wrong!  Last Sunday I was on my way to homecoming at Providence Baptist Church.  I turned north onto old 49 and saw the signs that the bridge was out.  I assumed that they hadn't gotten around to removing the signs.  I expected to cross Thompson Creek on the new bridge.  When I approached the creek the road was barricaded and construction equipment was down in the creek.
Perhaps The Herald can keep us updated as to the progress being made on the new bridge.
