Players and coaches battle heat wave

By TAYLOR  MITCHELL
Sports Editor

Football is by far the most popular sport in Mississippi with its constant violence and mind boggling strategies. However, as the years pass people are paying more attention to certain injuries caused on the field, like concussions.
The most dangerous threat to a players’ health, though, isn’t on the field, but in the sky.
It’s the heat, which has reached triple digits about the same time most teams are practicing on the field.
“It’s been hot,” Yazoo City head coach Tony Woolfolk said. “I’ve been playing and coaching football for 25 years and every year is hot. It’s just something we have to deal with because that’s the situation we are in.”
This month alone two players and a coach have died due to complications from the extreme heat in the country. Those are the most serious cases, but there are thousands of cases of dehydration and heat exhaustion that go unnoticed and are just as deadly. -------for the rest of the story see The Yazoo Herald printed edition or subscribe to the Digital Edition.----------
