By JOFFRE WASHINGTON
For the Herald

Last week, five Yazoo City High School boys basketball players competed in the AAU National Championships held in Orlando, Florida with their Jackson-based AAU team the Mississippi Ballers.
Corey Cox, Jalen Grayer, Johnny Rucker, Ladarius Drain and Deondre Burns spent the week in Florida testing their basketball skills against some of the top players and teams from around the country. The Ballers competed in the 17U Division 1 field that included 160 teams. They finished the tournament with a 3-3 overall record, advancing to the second round of the championship bracket before being defeated.
The Ballers were 2-1 in pool play, defeating Gold Coast-Team Miami 58-55, the Detroit Fire 64-46 and losing to Bishop Elite (Maine) 55-52. They posted a 55-35 victory over the Memphis Stars in bracket play before falling to Trademark Properties (TMP) 53-38 and King James Shooting Stars 60-37. -------for the rest of the story see The Yazoo Herald printed edition or subscribe to the Digital Edition.----------
