BRENDA BODDY

Brenda Bullock-Boddy died July 26, 2011 at the University Medical Center in Jackson.
Funeral services were held Monday with Rev. Steve Dennis officiating. Burial followed at Glenwood Cemetery in Yazoo City under the direction of Scott Memorial Funeral Home.
Mrs. Bullock-Boddy was born on Dec. 2, 1958 in Yazoo City to Emma Teresa and Wardell Bullock.
In 1984, she married Everett “Pete” Boddy and had three daughters.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Evelyn Bullock; brother, Robert Bullock; and one sister-in-law, Hilda Boddy-Anderson.
Survivors include her husband, Everett Boddy; three daughters, Erin (Keith) Clark of Grafenwohr, Germany, Emily and Essence Boddy of Yazoo City; three grandchildren; four sisters, Carolyn (Frizell) Casey, Dorothy Bullock and Vanessa Bullock, all of Yazoo City, and Linda Wallace of Belleville, Ill.; three brothers, Wardell (Sandra) Bullock of Detroit, Arthur Gene (Annie) Bullock of Yazoo City, and Andre Bullock of Lynwood, Calif.; mother-in-law, Hildren Boddy of Yazoo City; four sister-in-laws; three brother-in-laws; and a host of family and friends.
Pallbearers were Wardell Bullock, Herman Boddy, Arthur Bullock, Danny Boddy, Terry Boddy, Andre Bullock, Keith Clarke, Byron McGee, Carlos McGee, Xavier Harris, Frizell Casey and Ollie McGee.

MARIE DENNIS-LEE

Marie Martin Dennis-Lee, 85, of Holly Bluff, died July 25, 2011 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland.
Funeral services were held last Saturday at Campbellsville M.B. Church in Holly Bluff with Rev. Bernard Luckett officiating. Burial followed at Locklomond Cemetery in Holly Bluff under the direction of Scott Memorial Funeral Home.
Mrs. Dennis-Lee was born on July 26, 1926 in Holly Bluff to Bishop Martin and Jannie Jones.
She married Eugene Dennis Sr. in 1942 and had ten children. In 1979, she married Walter Lee.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bishop Martin and Jannie Jones; all of her siblings; first husband, Eugene Dennis; second husband, Walter Lee; four great grandchildren.
Survivors include her five daughters, Prince Ella Burroughs, Myrtis (Lonny) Kimble and Margarette Dennis of Rochester, N.Y., Lavon (Joe) Walls of Holly Bluff and Dorothy Dennis of Jackson; four sons, Eugene Dennis Jr., Samuel Dennis and Jesse Dennis, all of Yazoo City, and Arthur Dennis of Pine Bluff, Ark.; four stepsons, Walter, Jr., Charles, Jerry and Ronnie, all of Atlanta; two stepdaughters, Ora Jean of St. Louis and Gloria of Summers; 25 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
Pallbearers were Cortez Dennis, Marcel Walls, Neal Johnson, Samuel Dennis Jr., Jherrod Dennis, Terrance Coleman, Demarcus Jones and Supada Jones.
Honorary pallbearers were Eugene Dennis Jr., Jesse Dennis, Thomas Jones, Samuel Dennis, Arthur Dennis and Willie Smith.

SAM RODGERS JR

Sam Rodgers, of Yazoo City, died July 24, 2010 at St. Dominc’s Hospital in Jackson. Funeral services were held Saturday at St. Emmanuel Baptist Church with Dr. Ceasar Felton officiating. Burial followed Jonestown Cemetery in Yazoo City under the direction of Scott Memorial Funeral Home. Mr. Rodgers was born May 13, 1925 in Texas to Sam and Mary Rodgers. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Morseziner Rodgers; sisters, Cora Williams, Virginia Rodgers and Mary Lee Rodgers; and two grandsons, Clarence Jones and Chris Cook. Survivors include his children, Ruthie Lee Deal of Peoria, Ill., David Lee Rodgers, Daisy (John) Jefferson, Fannie Mae Ramsey, all of Yazoo City, Lee Bertha (Pat) Jones of Chicago, Barbara (Samuel) Washington of Cleveland, Moseziner Crozier, Takeshia Rodgers and Marcus Rodgers, all of Jackson and Cherry Rodgers of Byram; sisters, Rosie Lee (Charlie) Bullock and Bennie Little of Saginaw, Mich.; 21 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; 11 great great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Rosie Bullock of Yazoo City; brother-in-law, Lemon Bullock of Chicago; and a host of family and friends.Honorary pallbearers were John Jefferson, Pat Jones Sr., Kevin Deal, John Deal Jr., Jack Jefferson, William Stiff, Antwan Lowery and Gerald White.Pallbearers were Pat Jones Jr., David Rodgers, DeAndre Deal, Michael King, Lloyd Edward Rodgers, Davis Rodgers, Richard Griffin Jr. and Charles Taylor.


LAMAR SELBY

Elbert Lamar Selby, 77, died Monday, Aug. 1, 2011 at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson.
Funeral services are today at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Lincoln Dall officiating. Burial will follow at Fletcher’s Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Stricklin-King Funeral Home.
Mr. Selby was born Oct. 15, 1933 in Phoenix to James C. and Melissa Martin Selby. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and a retired maintenance engineer for King’s Daughters Hospital. He was also an author of local history and is honored on the Yazoo Literary Walkway.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, James Darrell Selby and Willis “Billy” Selby.
Survivors include his wife, Florence Hamel Selby of Yazoo City; three stepsisters, Jewel Moore of Bentonia, Marian Diffenderfer of Jackson and Mildred Redditt of Bentonia; a sister-in-law, Elaine Selby; nephews, John Selby (Cindy) of Grenada and Robert Selby of Lavergne, Tenn.; nieces, Melissa Selby of Bentonia, Suie Frierson of Picayune, Sara Selby of Way Cross, Ga. and Barbara Selby of Way Cross, Ga.; great-nephew James Selby of Grenada; several cousins; and many friends.
Serving as pallbearers are Bill Lehman, Robert Selby, Joe Dan Martin, John Selby, Phil Kirby and Surapon Wongrapan.

Faye Simmons

Faye Marie Spell Simmons, 69, of Benton, died August 1, 2011 at the home.  
Funeral services were  Wednesday at Southern Funeral Home Chapel in Lexington with Rev. David Meadows officiating. Burial followed at Coxburg Cemetery in Lexington.  
Mrs. Simmons was born Dec. 7, 1941 to Harvey Udolph and Irma Allean Marshall Spell. She was a cosmetologist and a member of Bethany Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband Tommy Simmons of Benton, sons, Keith Simmons (Kim) of Flora, Greg "Bubba"Simmons (Regina) of Florence, Shannon Scott Simmons of Benton; daughter, Toni (Edwin) Yates of Brandon; sister, Dorothy Simmons of Benton and grandchildren, Haley Simmons, Lauren and Thomas Yates and Zach Simmons.
