For the first time since 1967, the Dixie Youth State Championship trophy is back in Yazoo City.
Yazoo cruised to an 11-1 victory over Kosciusko Tuesday night to cap off a season that will forever be remembered by local baseball fans.
“I don’t know if they’re old enough yet to realize what they’ve accomplished,” coach Eric Poe said. “This is something that they’ll look back on years later and realize what they’ve done.”
Eric Poe knows from experience. It was 20 years ago that he helped Yazoo City capture a state title in the Babe Ruth League. This week he got to watch his twin sons, Parks and Jon Riley, experience the same thrill at an even younger age.
“It meant a lot to me,” Eric Poe said.
His sons agreed.
