High rise rescue
By JAMIE PATTERSON
Yazoo firefighters may often wonder why they constantly practice high-rise rescue drills considering Yazoo is not known for its skyscrapers.
But those drills were put to good use at the Industrial Park Monday morning when firefighters and ambulance personnel had to rescue a man from atop a grain elevator.
Adam Whatley collapsed from dehydration on top of a Bunge grain elevator around 10 a.m. Monday. As the hot sun beat down, emergency response was on the scene within minutes.
“He said he started getting dizzy when he was climbing up the ladder,” said Assistant Fire Chief Terry Harber. “When he got to the top, his fingers and toes started to curl up. Then he just collapsed.” -------for the rest of the story see The Yazoo Herald printed edition or subscribe to the Digital Edition.----------
