Flood damaged church working to rebuild
The stain on the wall behind Rev. Greg Taylor, Barbara Mitchell and Brenda Miles is a reminder of how high the water reached at Zion Travels M.B. Church in the Carter community. The people of Zion Travels M.B. Church have always been survivors.
Since the church first opened its doors in 1907, it has been through the Great Flood of 1928 and was ripped apart by a tornado in the early 70s.
Located in the Carter community, Zion Travels continues to attract a respectable Sunday morning crowd in an era where many small country churches lose members to larger churches now that anyone can just hop in a car and drive to town in 10 minutes.
And the members are confident that the church will survive the damage of the 2011 flood, but they’re bracing themselves for a long road ahead.
