Everyone knows Smith “Sonny” Taylor as the father of the Yazoo City Post Office.
Longtime postal employees Sandy Carver and Candice Book just know him as their father.
Taylor has been working for the U.S. Postal Service for 50 years and Yazoo office since 1962. His daughters have followed in his footsteps as Candice, postmaster of Satartia has been with the postal service for 25 years and Sandy is in her 22nd year.
Taylor arrives at Yazoo’s post office every morning between 4 and 5 a.m. His daughters laugh about how when they were growing up they couldn’t get phone calls after 8 p.m. because he had to get up so early. -------for the rest of the story see The Yazoo Herald printed edition or subscribe to the Digital Edition.----------
